このすば Vol. 1

I finished the first volume of この素晴らしい世界に祝福を!  (or short: このすば).

I tried several different series lately (just reading the first few chapters), and this one was the one that made me keep reading. Some things were a bit weird, and I'm not sure if I understood everything, but I really enjoyed all the comedy moments. I had much more fun with it than with the other isekai series I tried before.

スライム倒して300年 or くまクマ熊ベアー, for example, were nice but they became a bit boring after a while. I realized that somehow it feels "off" to me that so many characters in these series are nice all the time. There are no real conflicts or drama. Plus, the main character is overpowered and always wins. There are no real stakes.

I find it hard to root for overpowered main characters when they solve every challenge or problem with little to no effort - every single time. If nothing can go wrong, there's no need to worry. That's probably why I can't really build a connection to such stories.

I know these series are probably supposed to be cozy and relaxing to read, and that's absolutely fine. But... I realized they're just not really my cup of tea. I want action, suspense, and all that exciting stuff. XD (Please note that I haven't read the whole series of スライム倒して300年 or くまクマ熊ベアー. I can only speak about the first few chapters or volumes.)

Back to このすば: The first few chapters were mostly funny. I especially liked the one where Kazuma accompanies Megumin to her "training". It felt like they were starting to bond. Chapter 4 was a surprise because the story became dramatic and serious for the first time. I didn't understand every detail (that chapter was a bit confusing because so much was going on), but I was impressed.

What I like about このすば is that every character has their own strengths, but they also have weak points and quirks that often make their strenghts almost useless in battle (which causes lots of funny situations). This makes it necessary for the group to work together. Even the main character isn't an exception. He has his strenghts but also limits. The one thing that sets Kazuma apart is his ability to find out how to make the best use of his party's abilities

I think I'll continue with volume 2!
